I thought it would be fun to gather a few people who are interested in reading through the list of 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. I have posted a compilation of all editions of the list, if you'd like to check it out. But you're welcome to work from the compilation or from one specific edition - your choice!
Here's how I expect our team to work:
- If you want to participate, prepare an introductory post on your blog which either lists the books you've read or at least gives the highlights (your favorites) and the number you've read so far. Personally, I'm going to use mine as a Master Post, so I can include hyperlinks to my own reviews. Be sure to link your post back to this sign-up page so that the news can spread!
- Fill in the Mister Linky, providing the introductory post as your link.
- At the beginning of each month, I will have a Team 1001 post. In the comments of that post, please include links to all the reviews that you want me post links to. ONLY reviews to 1001-listed books! You can give me reviews that you've written before joining the team. :) That way, everyone can see that month's new reviews.
- Quarterly (March, June, September, December), I'll have an update meme in which we can all share what books we've read over the quarter, which were our favorites, etc. You can provide a link to your update in the comments section of my Team 1001 Quarterly Update.
- To see the comprehensive list of reviews, click on the 1001 Books tag in my blog. Any book with a hyperlink has at least one review.
This is a new project for me, so I may have to change things around as it develops. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

I like the rules! Maybe we can also have some nice bar of the group progress on the list? I don't believe it's possible for one person to read every book in the list, but we can surely do this as a group!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you are using my list! I've put a lot of love in it, correcting, updating, etc. and now it's not only for me, but for everybody) Cool!)
:) Yes, thanks for providing the list. It is the best-compiled one that I've seen! Perhaps I should have given you credit for it.
DeleteI'll add a little progress bar at the top of the group list.
Thanks) I did it in a severe fit of meticulousness after 2012 edition came out =) The progress bar looks perfect!
DeleteWhat if there are books that I have rad? Is that okay to mark them as read or should I re-read them?
ReplyDelete(Reading challenge is way greater temptation than anything. I should realise that I'm very busy, but this one is interesting.)
Oh, by all means - include the books you've read already in your list! There's no need to start over! But on the compiled list I'm only including books that we've got reviews for. If you have some old reviews, feel free to share them with us!
DeleteThis is a great idea. I have a lot of non-listed books on my plate in the coming months, but I am going to keep this in mind for the future. I think I'm up to 66 books on the list? I've been keeping track for a few years now!
ReplyDeleteThat's great Kelly! I go through spurts of reading them and then reading other things, too. I don't want to limit myself by reading ONLY books on a list. :) But it's still fun to plug away at the list! Next time you read one of the 1001 come on over and share.
DeleteOh my goodness, I really want to do this! I don't have a copy of 1001 yet, though. When were you planning to start?
ReplyDeleteHi ShaReKay! We're pretty much starting right now. :) I'm not sure I'll ever read ALL of the 1001 books, so I'm making it a life-long goal for myself. So I'm going to start now and just keep collecting reviews. :) You don't HAVE to own a copy of the 1001 Books to participate, but it is an interesting reference book if you're interested in it.
DeleteI'm in! I know I will never read all of these--but there are definitely a bunch that are on my long TBR list. I'll have past reviews to link up as well.
ReplyDeleteYay! Another team member! :)
DeleteI've linked up all my past reviews to the December Team post.
DeleteYup! I've got most of them in now. Thanks! :)
DeleteI'm in, as I have already started the same (personal) project this year. It would be fun to team with people who have the same goal. My list is here http://bukubukufanda.blogspot.com/p/1001-books_19.html Unfortunately several of them are in Bahasa Indonesia, but for the future I'll write in English (or at least will include conclusion in English). My introductory post will follow!
ReplyDeleteI have added my introductory post in linky! :)
DeleteYay! it's good to have you! I'll get your reviews-in-English up later today or tomorrow. I've been swamped lately with my move.
DeleteI really like it how you reorganized the list using google sites! It's faster, more functional, and to have a small description of the book as well as links to the reviews is just a great idea! It's amazing how much time you spend on this, it must me a tough job to keep everything organized! You are a hero =)
ReplyDelete:) Thanks. But it didn't take all that long. I had to spend a little bit of time figuring out Google sites (I still am not overly fond of the template/background, but I decided it was good enough for now.) After I'd worked that out, linking up the reviews and putting in descriptions for books that we have multiple reviews on wasn't hard at all.
DeleteI'm in. Wish me luck :)
ReplyDeleteYay! Good to have you! Good luck!
Deleteam in!! have linked up to Mr.Linky:)
ReplyDeleteWelcome!
DeleteOf course I'm in! I'm such a lover of lists, especially humongous ones like the 1001 books. I've been working on this one for a couple of years now. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteWelcome! Glad to have you!
DeleteI am definitely in. I have been looking for a challenge like this to begin on the list (since the incentive of "you are doing it for yourself" almost never works). Thank you for hosting this, especially since this one will go on for some time now.
ReplyDeleteGreat! I'd been looking around for an appropriate challenge too. It's much funner to do these things as a group.
DeleteI really would like to do this too. I'm doing the classics club and love having a list of recommendations. What a list. I don't think i'll get through all of these but sure would like to put a dent in it! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm in! I just added my link. I found this challenge a few months ago, but I had to compile my completed list from the first two edition spreadsheets that I have. Yours is the only list online which has all three editions so thank you for that. I've been doing this challenge on the side for years. It can offer some interesting recommendations. Looking forward to participating with everyone! Have a great weekend.
